With this talk I aim to convince you that yes, indeed, you should care. Proper research data management is not only crucial to ensure reproducability of research results but is also key to allowing for data reuse. With that it enables research that would not be possible otherwise and prevents waste of valuable time and money.
I will argue that most of what I say about research data management is valid for any type of big data management and thus applicable to a wide variety of settings, including public and enterprise data.
Finally, I will provide a brief overview of support offered at FSU and our plans for the future.
Birgitta König-Ries holds the Heinz-Nixdorf-Chair for Distributed Information Systems at the Computer Science Department of FSU Jena and heads the FSU Data Management Helpdesk. Besides the helpdesk, also her research group works on issues related to research data management and is involved in numerous projects in this area. It is home to the BExIS Data Management Platform and contributes to the development of the German Federation for Biological Data.
