Sofia Brenner - Blocks of finite groups and the Malle-Navarro conjecture

Many problems in the representation theory of finite groups can be simplified by reducing to the blocks of the group algebra. On the other hand, there are several longstanding conjectures relating block theoretic invariants such as Brauer's famous k(B)-conjecture. In this talk, I first introduce the main notions on blocks of finite groups. In the second part, we discuss the Malle-Navarro conjecture as an example of a conjecture in block theory.
