Semantic search is an umbrella term for all kinds of information retrieval involving a non-trivial human-like "understanding" of the query and/or the data. I will talk about the history of semantic search, current developments, and dare a glimpse into the future. I will highlight two results from our own research on the topic: interactive search on text combined with a large knowledge base, and question answering on large knowledge bases using machine learning. There will be several demos and numerous examples. The talk should be understandable for a general audience.
