Abstract

The talk reviews first briefly the functional formulation of quantum and statistical field theories using generating functionals like the Schwinger functional and quantum effective action. Some parallels are then established to information geometry and a divergence functional, that can be seen as a relative entropy, is introduced. Its statistical and differential geometric properties are discussed. Finally, the idea of functional renormalization group equations is introduced. The latter can be used to establish non-perturbative schemes for an approximate solution of quantum field theoretic problems.
